Ransomware Hits Business and Professional Services Hardest

The continued growth of ransomware puts business and professional services firms at particularly high risk, according to the latest global threat trends report.

NTT Security’s 2017 Global Threat Intelligence Report, released in late April, found that business and professional services firms account for 28 percent of all ransomware attacks, followed by government (19 percent), healthcare (15 percent) and retail (15 percent). That means more than three-quarters of the burden of ransomware is landing on these four industry sectors alone.

NTT also found that phishing is not only the most common vector for the spread of ransomware, but the source of 73 percent of all malware attacks in general.
