Microsoft Ends Support for Older Versions of IE Browser

Anne Bisagno

As of January 26, Microsoft will only support the most current version of its Internet Explorer (IE) browser available on any given client, server, or embedded operating system. Continuing to run unsupported software exposes you to ever greater risk of a security breach over time, so if you've simply fallen behind in updating, now's the time.

But what if you have customized legacy web applications that break with newer browsers?

If you have to keep running an unsupported version of IE for now, these steps will help secure your systems until you can upgrade:

  • 1. Install final patches now
  • 2. Remove admin rights from end users
  • 3. Virtualize and segregate the older version of IE
  • 4. Tighten and layer network defenses

Xantrion can help you take these steps. Call us for advice on protecting yourself against vulnerabilities while you prepare to update both your browser and your critical web applications.
